I want to purchase a few of these for my grandson, but I read that they cannot be washed with fabric softener. Is that true? And if so, why?

fabric softeners leave a residue on the fabric, and it eliminates its ability of repealing sweat from the body and forcing it out. wow you shouldn't use it for towels either, it makes them less absorbent.
